Black and culturally sensitive counselling

Space for identity, culture and belonging.

Your experience deserves to be heard

You may want to talk about racism, cultural expectations, belonging or the strain of feeling misunderstood. These experiences can be part of counselling, alongside anything else that matters to you.

I’m Vincent Akinnawo, a BACP-accredited integrative counsellor and psychotherapist in Gillingham, Medway. I offer a space to explore how your background, relationships and experiences shape the way you feel about yourself and the world around you.

Making room for your perspective

I invite discussion of culture and identity when they are relevant to what you want to explore. I will not assume that your background tells me how you feel or what matters to you. We can make space for racism, family expectations, faith, migration or moving between cultures, while also attending to the everyday concerns you bring. You decide how much of this you want to discuss.

In our first conversation, you can explain what matters to you in a counselling relationship and ask how I would approach the issues you want to explore. We can discuss the role of culture and identity without expecting those to be the focus of every session. We will review the work together as it develops.

I work with children, young people and adults and am accepting new clients. Session frequency is agreed individually. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or change a session; the full £70 fee applies to late cancellations and missed appointments.

Choosing a therapist is personal. The free 30-minute consultation gives you space to ask about my approach and consider whether you feel understood. In-person and online sessions cost £70 for 50 minutes. Call 07759 737823 or use the contact link above.
